The Opioid Epidemic Hits Home, Danbury Collaborates to Create Video

THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC HITS HOME

Everyday thousands of Americans wake up and face the unimaginable. A loved one has died from opioid abuse. Losing someone you love is something no parent, partner, spouse or child should go through, but in 2017, Connecticut accidental overdose deaths totaled 1,038 people. We ARE losing loved ones.

The opioid crisis has shed light on the misuse of prescription medications, illegal use of opioids and the addictive nature of these drugs. We are now experiencing a public health crisis across our nation and it is becoming everyone’s problem.

To help educate the public, Danbury Public Schools, Danbury Police Department, Danbury Emergency Services, Stand Together Make a Difference, Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse, MCCA and RMedia have joined together to produce a video about the misuse of opioids.

Please join Mayor Mark Boughton, Danbury’s Chief of Police, Patrick Ridenhour, Senator Michael McLachlan, Representatives Bob Godfrey and Michael Ferguson and Dr. Sal Pascarella in a Press Conference to roll out this video to the public.

The Press Conference will take place Thursday, June 21st at 2:30pm in the City Council Chamber at City Hall, 155 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, CT.

In the video, you will discover what you can do to help address this crisis, whom this crisis is targeting, information about Narcan and a general overview of the opioid epidemic. “We need practical solutions to address the opioid problem and this video offers just that,” states Terry Budlong, MCCA Director of Prevention Services and Co-chair for Stand Together Make a Difference. “This video needs to be seen by Danbury residents.”
