Bethel resident and professional photog exhibits work in Danbury

Hannah Munson's fantastic images and where to find them

Hannah Munson of Bethel, a professional photographer who creates painterly scenes that evoke courage and joy in lush colors, will show her work at the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut from Aug. 10 to Nov. 2.

An opening reception with the artist and a collection that she calls “Emerge,” will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Cultural Alliance gallery, 287 Main St., Danbury. The event is free but registration is requested.

Munson discovered photography late in life when, at age 49, she took a class and then held her first exhibit two years later. She is a member of Flagpole Photographers in Newtown and has won more than a dozen awards in the club’s local and regional competitions.

“I use my camera and Photoshop to create and compose painting-like images,” Munson says. “I fused my discovery of the creative expression that composite photography offers with my love of imaginative storytelling, often transforming my living room into creative sets in which to pose my subjects.”

Lisa Scails, Cultural Alliance executive director, described Munson as a storyteller of ideas imagined and then brought to life through her photographic images.

“We’re very pleased and proud to present her full collection, including new works not yet published, for the public to enjoy,” Scails said.

Munson also offers portraits, headshots, architectural and nature photography and more at Nonni Studios, which she operates in Bethel.

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut is a non-profit that serves the 10 towns in the Greater Danbury area, providing access and growth of arts and culture to improve quality of life and the economy. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
