Laura Hecht Emmer

Laura Hecht Emmer, 97, of Danbury, mother of Attorney Gerald Hecht of Danbury and Diane Weinreb of Sherman, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Danbury Hospital shortly after her admission.

Laura Hecht Emmer was the wife of the late Leon Emmer and the late Marvin Hecht. She was a former resident of Westchester County, NY, Pompano Beach, FL and Southbury, CT.

Mrs. Emmer was born in New York, NY, July 8, 1921, a daughter of the late Samuel and Yetta Cohen. She attended NY schools and graduated from Evander Childs High School of the Bronx. Mrs. Emmer was a retired legal secretary for the State of New York Judicial system.

A voracious reader, Mrs. Emmer was a school volunteer reading storybooks to elementary school children. She enjoyed golf and bridge.

In addition to her son Gerald and his wife Patti of Danbury and her daughter Diane Weinreb and her husband Clark of Sherman, CT, she is survived by three grandchildren, Matthew Hecht and his wife Meagan, Joshua Hecht and Molly Weinreb; a great-granddaughter, Eliana Hecht and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Emmer was predeceased by a brother, Louis Cohen and by two sisters, Selma Novak and Selma Jaconson.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Congregation Shir Shalom, 46 Peaceable St., Ridgefield. CT.

Interment will follow in King Solomon Memorial Park, Clifton, NJ.

A Period of Mourning (Shiva) will be observed at the Hecht Residence on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
