St. Gregory the Great School Leaders of Tomorrow

St. Gregory the Great School Student Recognized as Leader of Tomorrow

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano, Fifth Bishop of Bridgeport, and Foundations in Education recently hosted the 2nd Annual Leaders of Tomorrow Breakfast Reception at the Catholic Center in Bridgeport.

Leaders of Tomorrow is a unique program of the Bishop’s Scholarship Fund, which provides need-based scholarships to students in Catholic elementary schools who are identified by their principals as students of good character, academic promise and leadership potential.  Donors to the program transform lives of children through the gift of Catholic education.

The reception brought together students, their families, principals and the donors who sponsor a portion of their tuitions.

Among the scholarship recipients were Shayleigh Barrett, a 3rd grader; and Deanna Sutton, a 7th grader from St. Gregory the Great School in Danbury.

Shayleigh’s mother, Ms. Suzanne Fritz, remarked, “As a parent, it is truly a gift from God to have a child who not only is so dedicated to her school, but in turn to have that spirit be recognized so graciously by the staff and Principal of St. Gregory The Great School each and every day. The invaluable donors to our Catholic school system provide the chance for that spirit to flourish in children whom otherwise would grow up without the encouragement to express and share their faith, hope and love!”

Mrs. Martha Sutton’s shared, “Personally, I had happy tears when I learned of this award to her.  Her father and I are very proud of Deanna's hard work, accomplishments and recognition.  She is an amazing child and student.”

St. Gregory the Great Principal Mrs. Suzanne M. Curra, who was present at the reception, stated, "We are grateful for Foundations in Education and the donors who provide scholarships to our Catholic school students. Their generosity helps make it possible for our students to grow in faith, academics and leadership.”
