Joseph T. McGarigle

Joseph T. McGarigle returned to God’s loving arms peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019, surrounded by family and friends on at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was the loving husband of the late Joan (Townsend) McGarigle for 51 years. He was born on July 31, 1932, in Hazelton, PA, the son of the late Patrick and Mary Ellen (Coll) McGarigle. 

He attended the University of Scranton and graduated from Villanova University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He was a merchandise buyer for Caldor department stores in New York and Connecticut for over 40 years. 

He is survived by a son, Richard McGarigle and his wife, Clarice; two daughters, Mary Kurtz and her husband Ronald and Patricia McGarigle-Fazioli and her husband Mark; a brother in law, Charles Townsend; three grandchildren, Ronald Kurtz and his fiancé Jeanette Bartek, Richard McGarigle and Kristin Christensen and her husband Tim; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife Joan of fifty-one years, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Sister Mary Carmel McGarigle RSM. 

He was a faithful parishioner at St. Peters Church in Danbury. Joe enjoyed spending time with his time with his family and neighbors; most especially the Alam Family, who offered comfort and support in his time of infirmity. 

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church, 121 Main St., Danbury. 

Interment will follow in the St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. 

Contributions in Joe’s name can be made to the St. Peter Church and sent to the St. Peter Rectory, 104 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
