Longtime Resident and Danbury Public School Educator, Mike Murad, 84, has Died

Mitchell “Mike” Murad, 84, of West Palm Beach, FL, husband of Carmella “Millie” (Cartiglia) Murad, died on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in West Palm Beach.

Mr. Murad was born in Boston, MA, April 8, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Taylor) Murad. A resident of Danbury since 1942, he attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1953 and Danbury State Teacher’s College. He was an elementary school educator and reading specialist in the Danbury Public School system for thirty years. Mike enjoyed the teaching profession and often reached out to his students beyond his classroom doors.

He was a U.S. Army veterans serving from 1957 to 1959. Prior to residing in West Palm Beach, FL, he was a resident of Plymouth, MA after relocating from Danbury. As a resident of Danbury, Mike volunteered and was a member of the Danbury Dialysis Fund Committee and an active member of the Exchange Club of Danbury for which he was a past president and served on several committees; most especially the “Youth of the Month” committee. He was a member of the Lebanon American Club of Danbury and an active member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church where he was a member of the Men’s Society, Scholarship Committee and the Order of St. Sharbel. Mike will be remembered as a caring person who often put others ahead of himself. He was especially fond of making people laugh and putting a smile on their faces. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife “Millie” of fifty-six years, Mr. Murad is survived by three children, Mitchell “Jay” Murad Jr., Paula Murad and Karen Toledo and her husband Jeffrey. Together, Mike and Mille had the privilege of raising their granddaughter, Chanel Murad. He was a proud grandfather of eight and great grandfather of one. He is also survived by three of his seven siblings, Peter Murad, Jeanette Bowman and Sophie Gradia and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Murad is predeceased by a brother, Louis Murad and three sisters, Anna Knapp, Rose Murad and Sadie Bailey. 

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:15 am in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury with the Rev. Naji Kiwan, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The Family will receive friends at St. Anthony Church on Friday morning from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony Church Scholarship Fund, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury 06810 or to the Lebanon American Club Scholarship Fund, 22 West St., Danbury, CT 06810. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
