Danbury Youth Volunteer Corps Receives Top Honor

United Way Sponsored Program Named One of the Top in North America

For the fourth year in a row, the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) in Danbury was named a Gold Level program, one of 14 YVC programs throughout the U.S. and Canada awarded this honor.

The youth service program, hosted by United Way of Western Connecticut, involved 140 youth ages 11 to 18 from Danbury and the surrounding towns in 2018. This is the tenth year United Way has operated YVC in Western Connecticut.

In the coming year, YVC youth will serve more than 30 agencies, focus on projects related to compassionate communities, healthy lifestyles, arts, culture, and education.

“YVC is paving the way for YVC programs all over the U.S. and Canada,” said David Battey, founder and president of YVC’s headquarters, located in Kansas City. “The program has had such a profound impact on both youth volunteers and the community they’re serving.”

YVC Headquarters works with each YVC Affiliate to ensure that they are serving the youth and their community in the best way possible. The Gold Level rating goes only to the very top YVC programs that serve as stand-out examples for how the program can serve its community.

“We’re so proud of this honor for the YVC program and the youth volunteers involved,” said Morgan Greening, Program Director of YVC in Danbury. “We look forward to seeing all the great things that our youth will accomplish in the coming year.”

The program:

  •      Provides safe, meaningful activities in the after-school hours
  •      Cultivates leadership qualities
  •      Provides youth with awareness of social issues impacting the greater Danbury area
  •      Promotes an understanding of environmental issues
