St. Gregory the Great Middle School Students Win Big at CT Science & Engineering Fair

7th & 8th  grade students at St. Gregory the Great School were awarded outstanding prizes in numerous areas of Physical and Life Science at the CT Science and Engineering Fair Awards Ceremony held at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT on Saturday, March 16th. Competing at the CT Science Fair were 500+ students from 211 schools statewide.  


Thomas Fanelli, lll (8th grade) was awarded: 
•1st Place 8th Grade Laboratory Life Sciences Trophy and $300 Cash
•2nd Place 8th Grade - Alexion Biochemistry Trophy and $200 Cash
•Special Award - Sister Mary Christine Life Sciences Award  and $100 Cash
•Special Award - Frank J. Link Family Award for Energy Related Research and $50 Cash
•Connecticut Science Teachers Association (CSTA)- Marty Tafel Student Research Award for 2019 and $500 Cash
•Nominated for the National Broadcom Masters (with potential awards up to $25,000)

Max Coisman (8th grade) was awarded:

  •          Lockheed Martin Physical Sciences Awards- Finalist- Physical Sciences 8th Grade-CSF Medal
  •          Computer Sciences Awards- Middle School Finalist- Medallion
  •          Alternative/Renewable Energy Awards- 2nd Place Middle School- $200 Cash & Trophy
  •          Collins Aerospace Engineering Awards- Finalist- Engineering Middle School- CSF Medallion
  •          Alexion Biotechnology Awards- Finalist- Biotechnology 8th grade- CSF Medallion
  •          National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration- Certificate and $25 gift card given by CSEF
  •          MIT Club of Hartford K-12 Initiative- For excellence in science & technology of energy related research, high school, $100 cash award

Aiden Doolabh (8th grade) was awarded:

  •          Environmental Sciences Awards with CACIWC- MS Finalist- CACIWC gifts, CSF Medallion
  •          Future Sustainability Awards- Middle School Finalist- Medallion
  •          Yale Peabody Museum- Family “six pack” of free passes to the Yale Peabody Museum

Ryan Devin, Jack Halas & Patrick Heslin (7th graders) were awarded:

  •          The Jackson Laboratory Life Sciences Awards- 3rd Place- Life Sciences MS Team Trophy
  •          Invitation to Compete Broadcom MASTERS

Tyler Fahey (7th grade) was awarded:

  •          Future Sustainability Awards- Middle School Finalist- Medallion
