Danbury Westerners Announce Host Families Needed

The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (“NECBL”), have released their 2014 schedule, which includes six Saturday home games. All games are played at Rogers Park, Memorial Drive, Danbury, and unless otherwise noted, start at 6:30PM. Other highlights include the following:

The Danbury Westerners open their season on the road on Thursday, June 5th against the New Bedford Bay Sox. The Westerners home opener is the following night, Friday, June 6th, vs. the defending NECBL champions Keene Swamp Bats. Earlier that morning will be the Westerners annual Celebrity Breakfast, with details to be announced shortly.

Saturday, June 14th the Westerners are making plans to celebrate their history with pre-game festivities and a ceremony acknowledging many of the individuals who helped found and form the Westerners over the past 20 years. That evening’s opponent will be the Vermont Mountaineers. More information about this day will be announced.

On Saturday, June 21st the Westerners host their first doubleheader of the season against the New Bedford Bay Sox. First pitch will be at 5:00.

On Saturday, July 5th the team will host its annual Player-Parent/Host Family game, where we welcome the parents and friends of the 2014 Danbury Westerners team and acknowledge the contributions of our Host Families. That day the Westerners have a doubleheader against the Plymouth Pilgrims, with the first game starting at 4:00. The annual NECBL All-Star Game will be held in Holyoke, MA on Sunday, July 20th.

The Westerners conclude the regular season on Saturday, August 2nd against their in-state rivals, the Mystic Schooners. The NECBL playoffs will begin on Monday, August 4th.

In the upcoming weeks the Westerners will be announcing additional special events as the team celebrates 20 years of summer collegiate baseball in Danbury.
