Meet 2019 Drink Pink Courageous Face Tosha Gordon and Support Ann's Place on October 3

On October 3, 2019, the 11th Annual Drink Pink for a cause will take place at The Lounsbury House in Ridgefield. This event supports Ann’s Place while putting a spotlight on local breast cancer survivors.

The photo you see here is one of Kristen Jensen’s “Courageous Faces”. This and many other photos of cancer survivors, and those in the midst of treatment will blanket the walls of the Lounsbury House telling a story of life, struggle, friendship, and hope.

Here, we couple the many Courageous Faces with their unique stories. We thank each and every one of these ladies for sharing their journey with us.

Meet Drink Pink model and Courageous Face, Tosha Gordon

  • Hometown: Danbury
  • Three children
  • Age of children at the time of breast cancer diagnosis: 4, 7 and 9

When and how did you first learn you had breast cancer?

I leaned over to kiss my, then, 9-year-old son goodnight. For some reason, I reached up and touched the side of my breast and felt the lump.  I scheduled a mammogram the next day!

Who did you turn to for support and how was that person or organization supportive?

My family, my church, my team of doctors all pulled me through every treatment and surgery. Ann's Place helped to put me back together when it was all done.

Tell me about something someone said or did that helped you through your most difficult days

Enabling me.  Everyone that contributed to the daily function of my life whether it was to bring kids to activities on a moment's notice (thanks mom and dad!) or drop off a meal to make life easier or turn the stove off after I've finished cooking and left the room (damn chemo brain), or simply showed up to be with me to walk part of this journey with me was invaluable and I don't know how I would have gotten through it without all of them.

What was your day of beauty at adam broderick and your photoshoot with Kristen Jensen?

Adam Broderick was a rare day of pampering for me. Enjoyed it all!

And your photoshoot with Kristen Jensen?

Kristen put me right at ease. I had a big old suitcase full of clothes with no idea what to expect, but she zeroed in on my tree necklace and asked its significance.  I started a blog with a tree logo about my post-cancer journey. She knew immediately where I would be photographed and easily picked something from the ridiculous amount of clothing I brought with me.  Honestly, I wasn't so sure about the whole thing. I don't like to identify too much with cancer, but she made the whole experience fun and easy. Thank you, Kristen.

What message do you have for others who have been diagnosed with breast cancer?

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Lean on your support system, let them help. Realize that they actually want to help and you aren't putting them out. Find ways to bring some peace to your heart. Connect with nature or art or God - whatever it is that brings you peace. Be kind to yourself and don't overdo it. This is your time to heal. Give and receive love. It's the best medicine.
