Longtime Danbury Hospital Nurse, Margaret L. Asmar has Died

Margaret (Torielli) Asmar, 90, beloved wife of the late Norman L. Asmar, died peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2019.
Affectionally best known as Peggy, she was born in Danbury, August 16, 1929, a daughter of John T. and Mary (Mishico) Torielli.  She attended St. Joseph Parochial School, graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1947 and the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing.

A Registered Nurse for thirty-five years with the Danbury Hospital, Mrs. Asmar retired as a Nurse Manager of the Operating and Recovery Rooms. During her career as a registered nurse, she attained her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from St. Joseph College of Standish, Maine.

A lifelong resident of Danbury, Mrs. Asmar was a member of the Danbury Nurse Association and of St. Gregory the Great Parish where she was a member of its Ladies Guild and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Mrs. Asmar’s family was her life. She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Oesterlin (Philip), Joanne Ricci (Richard) and Patricia Travis (Ralph); a son, Norman G. Asmar (Michelle Tortora) a brother Robert Torielli and his wife Rose; six loving grandchildren, Joseph Ricci, Ashley Murtha (Steve), Amanda Finn (Steve), Christopher Oesterlin, Alicia Ricci and Ryan Travis; two great-grandchildren whom she adored and gave her great joy; Ava and Lucas Finn and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Asmar was predeceased by three brothers, John “Jack” Torielli, Frank Torielli and Billy Torielli and by a sister, Ann Gilman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There will be no calling hours.
