Longtime Danbury Public Schools Employee, Joan Clune, 87, has Died

Joan (Quigley) Clune, 87, of Danbury, wife of the late John Clune III, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 surrounded by family at Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Clune was born in Peekskill, NY, June 16, 1932, daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys Quigley. She attended New York schools , graduated from Croton Harmon High School and the New York Foundling Hospital as an infant care technician, Mrs. Clune was employed as a nurse at the Peekskill Hospital in their nursery prior to relocating with her family to Danbury in 1965. Joan worked in the Danbury Public schools lunch program for 19 years at the Broadview Middle School retiring as the food service manager.

Mr. and Mrs. Clune spent three years in Boynton Beach, Florida from 2000 to 2003 until Mr. Clune’s passing. There they enjoyed bowling, golfing and movie nights. She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church of Danbury. Mrs. Clune is survived by a son, John Clune and his wife, Patricia of Copperas Cove, Texas; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Justin) Lewis of Bethel and Stefanie (James Yoder Jr,) Pritchard of New Milford; five great grandchildren, Aubrey, Austin, Brayden, Connor and Dylan and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Clune was predeceased by two daughters, JoAnn Clune and Mary Ellen Clune Pritchard and by a brother, John Quigley.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 13 Pembroke Rd., Danbury. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends in St. Nicholas Church on Tuesday from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
