Local Chiropractic Healthcare Provider Offering Free Adjustments to All Essential Employees

Danbury’s own Connecticut Family Chiropractic is offering free chiropractic healthcare adjustments to all local area essential workers and employees. This includes nurses, doctors, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, grocery store workers and food delivery providers from such businesses as Instacart, etc.

“We are facing a situation that none of us has ever experienced before in our lives,” says owner Louis Sclafani. “These essential workers willingly go to the front lines for us every single day. The situations they face puts a tremendous amount of stress on their bodies and their minds. Chiropractic care has long been proven to play a positive role in alleviating some of that stress, as well as help to boost the immune system”.

Like most other businesses, CFP has been greatly affected by the social distancing requirements of COVID-19. “We’ve gone from seeing 80 to 90 patients a day down to seeing 12 to 15 patients a week on a very limited schedule,” says Sclafani. “We’ve been serving the Danbury area community for over 30 years and have served over 28,000 patients. These times are hard for everyone. But it’s also an opportunity to give back. And we can’t think of anyone more deserving of our service than these frontline essential employees”.

As a healthcare provider, Dr. Sclafani and his team are well informed on COVID-19 patient visit safety guidelines and have instituted protocols aimed at maximizing safety for everyone. Current patient visits are on an emergency-basis-only, and only after meeting all of the emergency visit screening criteria:

-       Patient has not knowingly come into contact with anyone with a confirmed COVID diagnosis, has not had a fever or a non-remitting cough within the past 45 days.

-       Patient has not had any upper respiratory symptoms such as frequent cough or migrating body wide joint pain.

-       Patient must have had pain symptoms necessitating chiropractic care for at least 5 days after teleconference with a staff chiropractor.

-       Patients who have been involved in traumatic accidents or falls that require being seen the same day must not be showing any COVID-19 flags.

Once a patient has met all the screening criteria, a visit is scheduled which lasts between 10 to 30 minutes. To minimize exposure, the chiropractor is the only staff in the building. Patients wait in their cars to be let in.  No one congregates in the reception area. Throughout the whole time, masks, gloves and hand sanitizer are used by both the doctor and the patient. The examination table and all equipment are wiped down with sanitizing wipes in front of the patient both at the beginning and the end of the visit. No payment is processed during the visits. Patients are billed afterward. In addition, the office is also professionally cleaned and sanitized nightly.

In order to ensure safety for all, Dr. Sclafani has created a special day and timeslot just for treating essential workers. As long as these workers have not actually been sick with COVID-19 and are not demonstrating any of the symptoms (fever, cough, upper respiratory dysfunction, etc), frontline workers will be scheduled for treatment on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. That timeslot allows a maximum of eight essential workers to be scheduled for treatment, while eliminating exposure to other emergency patients.

Chiropractic adjustment has been shown to help relieve stress on spinal joints and nerves of the spine. This helps improve blood circulation, airflow into the lungs, as well as reducing adrenaline output from adrenal glands, which are known to suppress the immune function. In addition, other benefits of chiropractic care include increased mobility, migraine relief, TMJ, neck pain, lower back pain, and sciatica.
