Dr. Albert Villarin has joined Nuance Health as the new VP, Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO). Dr. Villarin will lead efforts to enhance how care is accessed and delivered across the health system through innovations in technology.
Dr. Villarin will use technology to create fluid and unobtrusive digital experiences for clinicians and patients, achieve efficiencies, and resolve challenges. For clinicians, this will entail automating and standardizing processes, such as hospital admissions and discharges, and optimizing clinical workflows in order to improve care collaboration and give them more time to spend with their patients. An example of this is clinicians across Nuvance Health using a single platform to share information in real time, whether they are in Connecticut or New York, a primary care practice or a hospital, or a paramedic in the field.
Using digital solutions, Dr. Villarin aims to create a single front door to Nuvance Health’s services so patients can access the care they need — when, where, and how they choose. He will oversee initiatives to improve patient experience such as self-scheduling appointments and expanding Nuvance Health’s telemedicine program.

Dr. Villarin was most recently CMIO at Staten Island University Hospital, part of Northwell Health. A Major in the United States Military Reserve, Dr. Villarin completed an emergency medicine residency program at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he led new technology implementation. Dr. Villarin is completing a thesis and Master’s in Health Informatics from Northwestern University. He received a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and an undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard University.
