Danbury Resident Jerry Daly, 80, has Died

Gerald J. Daly, Esq., 80, of Danbury, husband of Carol (Ullrich) Daly, died surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at his home.

Affectionately known as “Jerry”, he was born in Yonkers, NY, on October 24, 1940, a son of the late Jeremiah A. and Bernice (Kroll) Daly.  He attended St. Denis Parochial School of South Yonkers until 1955 when the Daly family relocated to Danbury. He graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1958, graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1962 with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He joined the United States Air Force in January of 1963 and while serving in Germany he entered a Master's Program with the University of Southern California and received a Masters of Aerospace Operations Management in 1967.

Upon leaving the United States Air Force in 1969, he attended Fordham University School of Law graduating with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1972. He was admitted to the State of CT Bar that year and proceeded to work as a staff attorney under Theodore A. Gemza. He continued to be associated with Attorney Gemza becoming a partner in the said firm until the retirement of Attorney Gemza. Since that date, he has practiced as a sole practitioner until his retirement.

Mr. Daly served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the CT Attorneys Title Insurance Company for a number of years. He also served as a member and Chairman of the Tarrywile Park Authority for 19 years. He was an active member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Danbury where he served as a trustee and was a recipient of the St. Augustine Medal instituted by Archbishop William E. Lori, then Bishop of Bridgeport, to recognize the "unsung heroes" who unselfishly give of their time and talents to develop and sustain parish communities. He was an avid UCONN Ladies Basketball fan and enjoyed taking long country ”roads less traveled” car trips. He will be sorely missed.

In addition to his wife Carol of 46 years, Mr. Daly is survived by a daughter, Christine F. Saudo and her husband, Justin, and their children, Connor, Kasey, and Kaitlyn of Apex, NC; a sister, Bernice Willson and her husband William of Thousand Oaks, CA; sister and brother in law, Jack and Frances Flynn of Danbury, sister in law Dodi Daly of Ruppert, VT and brother in law, Charles Ullrich of Newtown, CT and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, colleagues and many friends.
