Georgette "Gee” (Nahom) Morey went home to the Lord on Christmas Eve. She fought a valiant battle against the horrible Covid-19 virus and ultimately succumbed to it. Her family is truly heartbroken but can take comfort that they were blessed with a very strong mother, mother-in-law, sister, daughter, and friend who taught them many things in life, especially in terms of honor, values, and faith. Georgette was born in Danbury, CT to David and Adell Nahom on July 5, 1927.
Georgette was a bright young woman who graduated from High School at age 16 and married Emil Morey in 1947 at age 20. They worked together side by side for many years, first in the IGA grocery store they owned which had been started by Emil’s Dad, and later, in the Real Estate business which Emil created in 1953 and which ultimately grew to 5 offices in Connecticut and one in New York City.
Georgette left the business in the early 1960s to raise her two sons, George and Robert, and then, in 1967, when her boys were old enough to be in school full-time, went to nursing school and began a wonderful career in Nursing which lasted nearly 30 years.
She worked at Danbury Hospital, in a couple of local Doctors’ officers, and finished her career as a Charge Nurse in a convalescent facility, Danbury Pavillion, which later became Heritage Heights. When she worked at the Hospital and at the Pavillion, she chose to work the 11:00 pm to 7:00 am shift so that she could both be home for dinner with her family and also be there for breakfast and to get her boys off to school.
Aside from her family and her career, Gee’s other passion was her love for her church, St. Ann Melkite Greek-Catholic Church in Danbury, where she was a life-long member. She attended mass regularly and was very involved in church life including the Ladies’ Guild (which she served for a time as President) and was always in the kitchen helping with the baking of the traditional Arabic sweets for the various festivals, sales, and Bazaars.
Georgette is survived by her two sons, George of Danbury and Robert (and wife, Dianne) of Newtown, and her sister, Helen Nahom, of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Bryon Holick (and wife, Annie) of New Milford, Kerri Pierz (and husband, John) of Brookfield, and Bethany Leduc (and husband, Cary) of Naugatuck, as well as six great-grandchildren (Codie, Kyle, Ryon, Emma, Jack, and Mason), and one great-great granddaughter (Gabriella). All will miss their Situ Gee. Georgette also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. She was always thankful that two of her nieces who became nurses, Suzanne Westerberg and Doreen Parella, always checked in on her and spent time with her whenever they could. She was predeceased by her parents, her former husband, Emil, and siblings George Nahom, Emily Gowdy, Edmund Nahom, and Carol Beers.
Following the Rite of Burial, at approximately 11:15 am, graveside services and interment will be conducted in Section 21 of St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. All are required to social distance and wear facial coverings. in Danbury. All are welcome to attend and will need to wear masks and maintain social distance.
Additionally, in 2021, there will be a Celebration of Georgette’s life when all will be able to attend safely.
The family would like to thank the caregivers Gee had at home the past few years, the staff at Hancock Hall who were very caring to Gee in her final weeks and offer a special thanks to Father Tom Davis of St. Ann Church in Danbury for coming in to the Covid Ward with us to anoint Mom and give her the final blessing.
