Creativity Connects Danbury: Meet Estela Camacho, Nature Lover, Educator, Local Creative, Community Volunteer

Creativity Connects Danbury

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Danbury?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good.

Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Danbury.

Creativity connects us.

Meet Estela Camacho, educator, community volunteer, local nonprofit advocate.

Tell us about an organization in your town that makes you feel good

We have many remarkable organizations in Danbury and a few always come to mind. Our Danbury Family Resource Center always provides education and opportunities from children in early childhood to adults. Our Danbury Public Library provides a variety of virtual programs for all ages. And, Regional YMCA and Uconn Extension's virtual nutrition classes are the best!

Where do you go for inspiration and creativity?

My favorite place is our Candlewood Town Park. This place gives me a sense of tranquility and the beauty is amazing. This is definitely my go-to place to sort out thoughts, read, and get inspired to continue on with my dreams and goals. Sometimes I just go there to chillax. I love my alone time!

What do you love about your community?

I love our Danbury community! People show an enormous amount of love and respect for each other. We may not agree in all or many areas but when there is an urgency, the community shows up to help. During this pandemic, I saw Facebook pages created with the intention to inform, give goods for free, and to inspire. One organization, The New American Dream Foundation, upon hearing of food disparities in our community, put themselves in high gear and coordinated a way to help our community. Our former Mayor Boughton kept us informed and did an amazing job raising funds for our community. Dr. Sal Pascarella, BOE, Administrators and educators continue to stay strong and positive while meeting the needs of our students and educators. Last but not at all least, my favorite places to eat: Elmer's Diner and Mothership Bakery & Cafe!
