Local Businessman Opens Insurance Agency in the Midst of a Pandemic

This year’s Flag Day will offer local veterans a unique opportunity as the region’s newest Farmers Insurance office, operated by Dennis Perkins of Danbury, will collect and replace U.S. flags from military veterans and replace them with new ones. Farmers Insurance is a provider of industry- leading products and first-rate services to its clients.

Flag Day observances recognize the adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. On Monday, June 14, at 30 Germantown Road at 4 p.m., Perkins is opening his doors to honor and celebrate all U.S. military veterans and our nation’s progress in curbing the pandemic.

Lt. Col. Thomas Saadi, the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs commissioner, is scheduled to attend Perkins’ grand opening and Flag Day festivities. Danbury Mayor Joseph Cavo and other dignitaries will also participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new business.

“We experienced a lot of hurdles to get to this day,” Perkins said. “But we kept the faith, overcame obstacles including the pandemic, and persevered until we opened this new venture. We are a model of what’s possible.”

“Many people have lost hope and faith in the possibility that things can and will get better for them,” Perkins said. “But with the vaccine and members of the community pulling together in this public health crisis, things are looking better.”

Perkins and his team will receive old or damaged U.S. flags at their 30 Germantown Road office. Veterans are invited to bring worn and damaged flags for replacement. Collected flags will be disposed of according to federal regulations.
