Danbury Westerners bitten hard by Martha's Vineyard Sharks, Sink on the Road 8-3

DUKES COUNTY, MA—The Danbury Westerners lost 8-3 to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at the Shark Tank on June 10th.
 
Danbury [1-4] found themselves down early for the third straight game as Martha’s Vineyard right fielder Levi Usher brought in Sharks second baseman Drew Grace on an RBI single. Usher would eventually come around himself to score after an error from Danbury catcher Jack Payton.
 
Martha’s Vineyard added three more runs in the bottom of the third as first baseman Matt Woods scored on another Jack Payton error. Levi Usher hit an RBI double and catcher Matt Donlan followed with an RBI single that scored Usher, making it 5-0 Martha’s Vineyard.
 
Danbury got one run back in the top of the fourth when right fielder Connor Harding scored Jack Payton on an RBI single, but Martha’s Vineyard responded in the bottom of the fifth with a Jake Berger solo home run to make the scoreboard read 6-1.
 
In the top of the eighth inning, Zach Selinger hit a sacrifice fly to score Jack Payton. After a Connor Harding walk, Matt Zaffino hit a single to score Cam Masterman before the inning ended with a Jake Roper strikeout from Riley Phillips. Phillips stayed on in the ninth and finished the game by striking out Jack Payton.
 
Kyle Roche took the loss for Danbury, bringing his season record to 1-1. He gave up seven hits and five runs [three earned] while also having two strikeouts over three innings of work.
 
Danbury will complete their three-game road trip tonight at Old Mountain Field iSouth Kingston, RI against the Ocean State Waves [2-3] at 6:30 PM. The game will be livestreamed on the NECBL Network.
