Westerners Soothe the Blues in 10-2 Blowout

The Danbury Westerners defeated the Bristol Blues 10-2 at Muzzy Field.

Kyle Roche pitched six innings and got the win while Danbury had two different three-run innings to soothe the Blues on the road.

Luke Shliger scored first for the Westerners in the top of the second inning after a wild pitch got past Bristol catcher Chad Knight. Shliger was able to slide under the tag from Blues starter Mark Faello. Jake Roper came around to score after an errant throw across the infield got past Brennen Dorighi.

Bristol loaded the bases after a leadoff fly out to the right field in the bottom of the second but remained scoreless after back-to-back flyouts to the left and center field.

The following two innings had both Bristol and Danbury adding two runs each.

Banks Griffith brought in Justin Jordan on a bloop single to center in the top of the third. Danbury filled up the bases later in the half-inning, and just like Bristol in the latter half of the second, they left them stranded.

The Blues countered in the bottom of the third when Anthony Galason had an RBI single up the middle. Danbury later regained a three-run lead in the top of the fourth after an error from the Bristol infield before Bristol scored on an error from the Danbury infield.

The Westerners got back in the score column for three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Jake Roper came into score on a passed ball. Another run scored on a Banks Griffith fielder’s choice before he scored himself on a single up the middle from Nick Lorusso. After loading the bases on a walk, Danbury left them stranded for the second time.

Another Danbury three-run inning followed in the top of the ninth. Luke Shliger scored again in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch. Justin Jordan tied the hit count with Bristol at 7 with an infield single that added Danbury’s ninth run in the form of Jake Roper. Cam Norgren scored on another wild pitch before an inning-ending strikeout.

Bristol loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but they were left stranded for their second time and fourth total time between both teams after a strikeout.

The Danbury Westerners will host the Ocean State Waves for a two-and-a-half header Thursday at Rogers Park. At 2:30 PM, both teams will pick up from a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth and will finish that game through nine innings. Following that game will be two seven-inning games at 4 PM and 6:30 PM. All games will be live streamed on the NECBL Network.
