Helen (Ellis) Moses, 100, of Danbury, wife of the late Michael J. Moses, died on Friday evening, February 11, 2022.
Helen was born in Danbury in 1921, a daughter of the late Miled and Labeeby (Michael) Ellis. She attended St. Peter’s school and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1938.
Helen was a working mother long before it became the norm, retiring as a bookkeeper and corporate secretary for the Laser Optics Corporation of Danbury in 1991.
For many years, prior to being employed with Laser Optics, she was the bookkeeper and administrative assistant at St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church of Danbury from 1955 to 1985.
Active in St. Anthony Parish, she was a member of the Ladies Guild, parish council, finance committee, was a host committee member of Team Lebanon of the Special Olympics, the local National Apostolate of Maronites, was a member of its national convention committee, and a founding member of the Mahrajan committee.
In 1980, Helen was presented the Maasabki Medal from the National Apostolate of Maronites national organization.
While her children attended Sacred Heart School, Helen was an active member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild.
In later years, she was treasurer of a local AARP chapter, volunteered with many local charities, and enjoyed travelling and learning with Road Scholar.
She is survived by her children, Michelle Moses Ramey and her spouse Dennis, Evelyn Moses Owen, James A. Moses and his spouse, Philip Lovejoy; two grandsons, Michael Ramey and Stephen Ramey; three great grandchildren, Alexandria, Dominic and Nikolas; a grandson by heart, Brian Moses; and her beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Moses was predeceased by three sisters, Mayme Lataif, Lorraine Jowdy and Evelyn George; three brothers, Edward Ellis, Joseph Ellis and Louis Ellis; and her son-in-law, Louis S. Owen.
Graveside funeral services and burial will take place on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. in Section 20 of St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
There will be no calling hours.
