Danbury Police mourn unexpected passing of beloved dispatcher Bob Nelson

The Danbury Police Department family mourns the unexpected passing of dispatcher Martin Robert "Bob" Nelson on October 24, 2022. Since 2014 Bob has worked for the IXP Corporation, the company contracted to provide public safety dispatching services for the City. He was one of IXP Danbury's original hires.

Throughout his time with IXP, Bob has served many roles within the Communications Center. In addition to his primary duties as a 911 Call Taker, Bob was certified as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and on countless occasions was able to provide medical instructions such as CPR or Narcan administration to callers in need.

He also used his prior skills as a schoolteacher to assist other team members as they learned how to perform vital skills.

Bob has served as a primary Danbury Fire/EMS Dispatcher for the past several years. He had very high standards and would drive himself and other crew members to be better than the day before.

When not working Bob enjoyed fishing, New York Yankees baseball, and New York Giants football. Bob was a true fan of 70's rock and attended countless concerts featuring the legends of the genre.  He loved to talk about those experiences with his friends and co-workers.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bob's family and friends.
