Danbury schools recognized for progressive learning

Danbury has been named as one of two districts in the state by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education as having “made great strides in transforming their schools to include Personalized Learning” as an integral part of teaching and learning within their schools.

As a result of this success, Danbury High School Principal Daniel Donovan and Associate Principal of Instruction Dr. Meghan Martins have been asked to present at the 2016 CABE/CAPSS Convention “Children First” Opening Opportunities For All.” Sarah Roy, coordinator of the Danbury Early College Opportunity, open to freshmen students at the high school, will presenting on the DECO program and student progress. The convention provides school administrators the opportunity to learn more about helping students become more successful through general sessions and workshops.

The Danbury Public Schools has taken significant steps to provide students with a variety of opportunities to succeed. At the high school level, some of these steps include the Danbury Early College Opportunity, which offers students the opportunity to earn an Associate Degree while at DHS. Students also have a variety of career pathways including preparation for jobs in the healthcare, automotive and culinary arts fields.

“This is a great opportunity for school administrators to highlight our vision to create program equity and access for students,” said Superintendent Dr. Sal Pascarella. “These programs that we have initiated quite successfully are a result of combining that vision with the Board of Education’s strategic plan, which helped foster the necessary academic climate and culture that lent in large part to their success.”
