Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story! HamletHub launched this initiative in Ridgefield in early 2018 and due to its overwhelming success, we brought it to neighboring communities - all in the name of keeping it LOCAL.

You're IT Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe!

Three questions with Andrea Gartner, owner of Pour Me Coffee & Wine Cafe.

Why did you start your business?

I believe that we all have the ability to be agents of change and transformation not only in our own lives in the lives of our families and our communities.  Pour Me is a manifestation of that desire to be an agent of change and transformation in the revitalization of Downtown Danbury while doing something I love!  It's also part of a personal quest to bring the whole Universe to a revitalized Downtown Danbury by providing best-ingredient food & drink to fuel & fortify people to do their good in the world!

Best selling product or service?

By far our best selling product is coffee!  We offer all types of espresso specialty coffee drinks that an be made with nondairy options. We use locally roasted brand - #SacredGroundsCoffeeRoasters that has been so popular with our guests.  Our second best seller is draft kombucha of which we always have two (2) flavors pouring. Our kombucha is brewed locally by # CrossCultureKombucha. We love that we were the first business to carry their product on tap. We started with one tap but added another because of the demand!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business?

Besides our friends at Sacred Grounds and Cross Culture Kombucha, we carry quinoa brittle from The First Bite out of New Milford, purchase our meat and poultry from Omaha Beef in Danbury and purvey our breads through Royal Bakers Distributors also based in Danbury.  We carry Nutshell nutbars that are made in Stamford and also draft cold brew coffee from Rise in Stamford. We have a selection of Connecticut brews in cans and on tap and some of our spirits are sourced from the Hudson Valley. Since we are a new business with not even a pear under our belts it may be worthy to name the local businesses we used in our build out: 72Archiects; Countertops by Starian; The Counterworks (all in Danbury); Ken Burns Electric (Newtown); Unlimited Signs (Brookfield); United Alarm; Artwork is rotated on our brick wall through the Accessible Art Program administered by the Cultural Alliance of Western CT - we will soon hang our fifth show!
