Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story! HamletHub launched this initiative in Ridgefield in early 2018 and due to its overwhelming success, we brought it to neighboring communities - all in the name of keeping it LOCAL.

You're IT Wags Doggie Daycamp and Boarding!

Three questions with Rachel Ambrose of Wags Doggie Daycamp and Boarding.

Why did you start your business?

We started Wags Doggie Daycamp & Boarding in 2004 to provide Danbury and the surrounding area with a new kind of pet care. Instead of in-home dog sitting or a mid-day walk, we wanted to give local dog owners a place for their pups to play all day under the supervision of trained staff who are just as dog-crazy as they are. And there's nothing like our overnights: staff members stay in the very same room as the dogs throughout the night, providing plenty of entertainment and snuggles, as well as ensuring maximum safety for our four legged campers. We've even added live webcams so owners can peek in at what their dog is up to!

Best-selling products/services?

While our daycare and boarding roster is fairly busy on any given day, we definitely notice that our summer campers seem to multiply each year! With so many people going away for summer vacation, they like being able to book their dog something fun too.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business, and can you name them?

We utilize a number of other local businesses! These include Agway on Mill Plain Road for our in-house food and Happy Hound Homemade, who sell their dog treats and all natural dog food in our lobby. We've also worked with Crossroads Signs (now part of Blue Hammer Creative) for some of the signs you see around our property.
