Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story! HamletHub launched this initiative in Ridgefield in early 2018 and due to its overwhelming success, we brought it to neighboring communities - all in the name of keeping it LOCAL.

You're IT Happy Hound Homemade!

Three questions with Barbara Rodriguez, owner of Happy Hound Homemade.

Why did you start your business?

Because dogs deserve the very best!  We have cooked high quality, human food for our dogs for the past 12 years.  We are now offering our handcrafted, small batch dog food and treats to the public. I have not seen any product on the market that matches the quality or freshness of food we are offering for dogs.

Best selling product/service?

We sell three varieties of our food.  Sam's Cocina is made with all white meat chicken breast, brown rice, black beans, veggies and beef liver.  Boris' Bistro is made with USDA grade select beef, sweet potatoes, veggies and chicken gizzards. But our best seller to date is our easy to digest Yogis' Tame the Tummy made with all white meat chicken breast, whole wheat pasta and peas.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
  • We are selling our products at Wags Doggie Daycamp and Boarding
  • We shop at Restaurant Depot, Stop and Shop as well as C-Town
  • My attorney is Victor Rodriguez at VMR Law LLC
  • My bank is the Savings Bank of Danbury
  • My marketing guru is Tom Reczek of SOTD Marketing and Design
