Danbury Library joins libraries across Connecticut to make Libraries ROCK this summer!

"Libraries Rock!" is this summer’s reading theme, and the Danbury Library will join libraries across Connecticut to prove it with a huge variety of exciting, educational, and entertaining programs and services for kids, teens and adults.

Summer activities officially begin on Monday, July 2nd. Doors open at 10am, when everyone is invited into the library to sign up for the reading programs for kids, teens and adults. Students in grades 1-12 will also be invited to participate in Mayor Mark Boughton’s Reading Challenge. Books from local school reading lists will be available for checkout.  From noon to 2pm, those who come with an appetite will be able to purchase some tasty offerings from a variety of food trucks conveniently parked outside the Library's plaza. Students from Western CT State University will perform live music from 12:30-1:30pm and from 2:00-4:30pm, members of the Library’s Teen Council will offer fun activities for children such as bean bag toss and face painting.

To conclude the day's activities, musician and educator Caryn Lin will bring her electrifying “Science of Sound” performance to the Library from 5-6pm.  This extraordinary program is best described as it is written on her website: “Caryn plays her 4, 5 and 6 string electric violins, using looping to create short, on-the–spot recordings of her voice, percussion, and other sounds. As she plays the violin, the recorded snippets play back in a continuous loop adding fascinating layers of sound over deceptively simple melodies. The resulting music is both otherworldly and totally catchy: mesmerizing and unique.”

All of the Library’s activities are free of charge and continue through Friday, August 17th.  For a complete listing of upcoming programs for kids, teens and adults, visit the library online at danburylibrary.org or stop by the Library and pick up a brochure.
