Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT eFriend Marketing!

Three questions with Julie Davis Friend, owner of eFriend Marketing.

Why did you start your business?

I am passionate about helping others achieve the goal of launching, growing and ultimately selling or transferring their businesses. For me, the fun is in the idea phase, start-up, and growth and helping others succeed!

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish I could focus more on our brand, and get beyond the shoemaker’s kid syndrome. So essentially, take my own advice and recommendations that I make to clients.

Best selling product/service?

We have an extensive range of services from brand and logo design, web design and redesign, social marketing/engagement solutions to strategic planning and competitive market research. Not all services are a fit for every client, so I guess the best service is taking the time to understand each individual account, what makes them tick, and provide the services to best suit their advertising and marketing requirements.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

One local business that I use a lot is Minuteman Press owned by Matt Spak. He does great work, is reasonably priced and lives and works in Newtown. The Chamber of Commerce of Newtown is another go-to resource. From business series seminars to events in town. I am a firm believer in “Do Business Locally.” I definitely support the local restaurant scene, a great way to host a meeting in a more relaxed environment. Some of my favorites are Barnwood, Dere Street, Lucas Local, I wish I could name them all. A new shop in town that I love is Strength & Grace Boutique on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook - a great eclectic mix of clothing, accessories and fun gift items. I work a lot with the team from Newtown Country Club. A local venue where we manage events for several local organizations.
