Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story.

You're IT Danbury Hackerspace!

Three questions with co-founder of Danbury Hackerspace!, Mike Kaltschnee.

Why did you start your business?

We started the non-profit Danbury Hackerspace as a place where artists, makers, and entrepreneurs could get access to expensive equipment like industrial lasers, 3D printers, CNC routers, and other equipment. We help inventors with prototypes for free, but if someone wants access to the facility on a regular basis our membership is only $50 per month ($25 for students). More information is available online at DanburyHackerspace.com. We host a free weekly open house where anyone can see the Hackerspace every Thursday night from 7-10pm.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish we had more space, so we're looking for a much larger facility to have more space for equipment, workspace, coworking, and even some artist and entrepreneur lofts.

Best selling product/service?

Our 24x7 membership is very popular and a great deal at only $50 per month ($25 for students).

Danbury Hackerspace! is located in the Innovation Center at 158 Main Street, connected to the Danbury Library.
