The Western Connecticut State University Master of Business Administration program has received recognition in a recent survey citing M.B.A. programs across the nation that offer academic excellence and flexible admissions policies providing a balanced and holistic profile to predict student success.
The 2019-20 academic year survey by MBANoGMAT.com, an online service evaluating accredited M.B.A. programs nationwide, selected the Ancell School of Business at WCSU as one of two institutions in Connecticut and 82 in the United States that qualified for its designation among “Top Picks for the Best Business Schools in America with Reasonable GMAT Waiver Policies.” An objective of the MBANoGMAT.com service is to highlight alternative paths to M.B.A. program admission for prospective degree candidates who have not taken the Graduate Management Admission Test or who seek to confirm that undergraduate GPA performance, graduate studies and professional experience carry weight along with standardized test scores in acceptance decisions.
“We went looking at every accredited M.B.A. program in America to identify the very best options that consider more than just test scores in their admissions processes,” the survey summary noted. “When we came to the Ancell School of Business at WCSU, we knew we had a winner. With a very reasonable GMAT waiver policy and an M.B.A. program that is uncompromising about providing an exceptional student experience, Western easily earns its place on our list.
“These schools have figured out what a lot of students already know: A single one-time test score doesn’t really sum up your potential as either a student or business person,” the MBANoGMAT.com report said. “Diversity is a watchword in modern academia, and diversity requires looking at individuals and their experiences holistically.”
The Ancell School requirements for M.B.A. program admission, available at on the WCSU website, noted that undergraduate GPA and academic achievements, GMAT or General Record Examination test scores, work experience and recommendations from employers, teachers and other references are all important factors in the acceptance decision. For applicants who do not seek a GMAT waiver, their GPA performance during undergraduate studies may compensate in part for a relatively low GMAT score in meeting admissions requirements. “There is no minimum GPA or minimum GMAT score requirement,” the FAQs page for the M.B.A. program at WCSU explained. “We construct an admissions score by combining your total GMAT score and your total undergraduate GPA based on all courses at all schools you attended.”
The MBANoGMAT.com survey description of the WCSU M.B.A. program emphasized its academic excellence, demonstrated in the accreditation of the Ancell School of Business by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The survey profile of the WCSU program also underscored its affordability and its provisions for evening classes and online instruction that accommodate the needs of both full-time students and working professionals.
