You're IT Begell House!

Three questions with Yelena Shafeyeva, founder of Begell House.

Why did you start your business?

Begell House Inc. was established as a source of scholarly publications in 1991 by (Late) Dr. William (Bill) Begell in New York, NY, USA.

Dr. Begell had over thirty years of experience in publishing as well as a distinguished career as a chemical-nuclear engineer and researcher. He was also the founder of Hemisphere Publishing Corporation (1966) where he had developed an impressive list of 80 high-impact engineering and biomedical journals.

Today, Begell House is a globally-recognized publisher of scientific books, journals, databases, and research tools in the fields of energy, thermo-fluid sciences, air and hydro-dynamics, physical mechanics, and medical sciences. These publications and online databases are of direct relevance to research, technology development, and graduate studies in physical and biological sciences, engineering and medicine. We have been in our Danbury office since 2014 and love the community here!

What is your best selling product/service?

As a scientific publisher, our best-selling products are our technical journals and databases. Our journals focus on exceptional engineering and medical research that is very unique, with some of our most popular titles being International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms, Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering, Heat Transfer Research, and Critical Reviews™ in Biomedical Engineering. Our online database THERMOPEDIA™: A-to-Z Guide on Thermodynamics, Heat & Mass Transfer, and Fluids Engineering is extremely popular and gained over 2 million hits worldwide in 2019. Our Heat Exchanger Design Handbook Multimedia Edition is also an indispensable reference for those in the field of thermal engineering and has proven to be a vital tool for students who are preparing to enter the industry.
