Danbury's In the View Project Exhibits Work of Multimedia Artist Kate Corroon Skakel

Brian Walters, together with Mark Nolan of Nolan Enterprises and Echo MacKenzie, is the founder of Danbury's In the View project. The two are charged with finding Connecticut based artists to display their artwork in vacant storefronts in downtown Danbury.

The latest installation features the work of multimedia artist Kate Corroon Skakel currently on display at 325 Main Street in Danbury.

"We are so happy to have Kate’s work, it’s striking in its vivid red hue. Tangled to start with a gracious unfurling towards the street. This gesture by this site-specific piece may just be a way-finder as we put 2020 in the books," says Brian.

Artist Statement

I create large scale, temporal installations made of paper, fabric and light, that challenge our preconceived notions of fragility, power and the ways in which we occupy space. My installations take the forms of alcoves or pathways, hung intuitively from ceilings and walls that embrace the viewer. The disorienting use of light, combined with the softness of the material, create an immersive experience that transports people out of their own world, into a space where they can allow themselves to feel tender. My pieces are rebellions against the politics of hard power. I am contradicting the notion that space should be taken up with brute force, and instead positing that we need to make room for fragility.  We are rapidly loosing our ability to be truly intimate with each other, and we need reminders to be tender. When inviting viewers into my works, I am asking them to suspend their disbelief and their frustrations, and instead to be still, for a few moments.
