Boughton says one of his proudest moments as Mayor is signing over an historic piece of property to the Women's Center of Greater Danbury

As Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton prepares to hand the City reins to Joe Cavo, he announced in a tweet one of his "proudest moments" as Mayor.

"Signing over the property at 89 Rose Hill Ave. to The Women's Center of Greater Danbury. The facility built there will help the Center fulfill its mission and save lives," he Tweeted.

After the Mallory Hat factory closed its doors in 1987, the city assumed ownership of the esteemed property, one of the main reasons Danbury was considered the Hat Capitol of the world. The building has been vacant for decades.

The Danbury-based nonprofit, dedicated toward ending domestic violence, will transform the former home of the bustling Mallory Hat Factory into usable space so they can fulfill their mission of ending violence against women, men and children while fostering equality and empowerment for all.
