Four questions with Kathleen Nugent, owner of Marie Nugent Personnel Services.
Why did you start your business?
I didn’t actually start the business, my mom Marie Nugent did, in 1989. She had been working in the industry. She decided to venture out on her own, at first with just permanent placement, and then she added the temporary division in 1990. I came into the business in 1996 after working in the accounting field for an advertising agency in Boston and New York. My mom retired soon after and I’ve been doing it ever since. May 2021 will be 25 years for me!
What is your best-selling product/service?
The employees that we send to our clients are our “product”….we pride ourselves on our customer service to both. We try to provide the best fit for both the employee and the client. It’s so rewarding when you can make that match successfully.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?
The pandemic has forced me to “reimagine my business” for sure. I have recently relocated my office to my home, conducting interviews by zoom and facetime. It’s been an adjustment but it definitely works and I’ve settled into a new way of doing business.
