Four questions with Muriel Badinelli.
Why did you start your business?
I've been an artist and designer all my life - with careers first in graphic design and then in interior design. Every trip to the craft store had me intrigued as I passed the bead aisle!
I started making some jewelry for myself and then was asked by friends and colleagues to create pieces for them as well. That was the start. I love creating custom jewelry for others and my pieces evolved from simple stringing to bead weaving and bead embroidery.
What is your best-selling product/service?
I specialize in custom pieces. Recently, I had the opportunity to design a bridal tiara that incorporated sterling silver, diamonds, and pearls. The bride and her mom were thrilled with the final product! Bestsellers are bracelets.
Zoe & Co Sugarbeads in Ridgefield and I work together - I purchase materials from there and they sell my finished pieces. We have a great working relationship and it's a perfect local place to view my jewelry.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Yes, in just the last few weeks I had a need to create an Apple Watch band using some of my bracelet techniques. With just one Facebook post, I already have four orders! I like to pay close attention to fashion trends and colors to create updated jewelry options.
