Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT SPORRE Tree Service!
Three questions with Ian Sporre, founder of SPORRE Tree Service.
Why did you start your business?
I have always had a passion for the outdoors. I like the excitement of having a challenge, working at a variety of different job sites, and the critical thinking and problem solving that tree work entails.
As a licensed arborist, I wanted to make a difference in the tree care industry by using proper and safe tree care techniques. It's a great feeling to see homeowners get quality work and proper tree care and feel good about the trees on their property.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Our featured services are our technical rigging and climbing along with our new 90 ft Spider Lift which can get into tight sensitive areas (such as a 36-inch gate). The Spider Lift has a working height of 90 ft and can access backyards where bucket trucks cannot.
It allows us to work over sensitive areas such as swimming pools and septic systems and to safely work on hazardous storm-damaged trees and dead Ash trees that can no longer be climbed. This also allows to prune and remove hazardous dead branches.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Local small businesses that I use and recommend:
- Newtown Power Equipment - I have been going to them for 25 years for all tree equipment services, products, and repairs. Dave, Greg, Joe, and John are top-notch!
- Newtown Hardware - is a fantastic store for smaller products needed to keep us going.
- Napa Autoparts - is where we buy all truck auto parts and supplies.
- Caraluzzi's has the freshest food for keeping us fueled for lunch and throughout the day!
Ian would like to nominate Newtown Power Equipment to be featured next!
