Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton pays tribute to non-profits during Global #GivingTuesday Movement

The City of Danbury has recently declared Tuesday, November 28 as #Giving Tuesday.

During a recent ceremony, Mayor Mark Boughton presented Executive Director Fran Normann of Housatonic Habitat for Humanity with a proclamation which recognizes this global day of giving.  #GivingTuesday is in its fifth year and is a growing movement when millions of people around the world come together to champion the causes they support.

Mayor Boughton said, “Danbury acknowledges the mission of #GivingTuesday as a celebration of philanthropy and volunteerism where people give whatever they are able to give.  It is fitting and proper on Giving Tuesday, and on every day, to recognize the tremendous impact of philanthropy, volunteerism, and community service in the City of Danbury.”

Normann said, “After days of shopping – Black Friday and Cyber Monday – it’s time to feed your soul on #GivingTuesday and pay it forward to others. We are building homes for people …because YOU care!”  This is our first year working with #GivingTuesday. Help us raise the roof on our next home!  Our goal is to raise $5,000!   To join this movement and help us reach our goal, make a contribution atwww.housatonichabitat.org/donate or on #GivingTuesday.org”.

Normann said Housatonic Habitat has created a photo gallery of individuals who give their time and talent at www.housatonichabitat.org.  “All are welcome to download our ‘UNSELFIE poster’ and be a part of our wall of supporters.”

At Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, our focus is not just putting a roof over someone’s head. While we build homes for workforce families, we create change for hundreds of others who donate, volunteer, mentor, and shop to support our mission. We are both a builder … and a bank, which makes the Habitat homeownership model unique. Beyond the four walls, doors, roof, and a space to keep a family safe, we provide an interest-free mortgage with no PMI or down payment.  Wow! The savings are tremendous. Homes are sold at cost … with a 0% mortgage. How do we raise the funds for our next homes?  … only with your support.  By partnering with you, we will build stronger neighborhoods with children who now have the stability to finish high school and reach beyond for greater earning opportunities.
