Statement from Mayor Dean Esposito and Danbury Superintendent of Schools Kevin Walston Regarding Education Cost Sharing Bill

Statement from Mayor Dean Esposito and Danbury Superintendent of Schools Kevin Walston on HB 5283 (Danbury, Connecticut)

Today, Mayor Dean Esposito and Danbury Superintendent of Schools Kevin Walston will attend a press conference at 4pm at the State Capital Building concerning House Bill 5283, An Act Concerning the Education Cost Sharing Grant Formula and the Funding of Other Education Programs.

This bill will accelerate the Education Cost Sharing (ECS) formula’s phase-in schedule and fully funds all districts beginning in FY 2025 when one-time federal COVID relief funds expire. It will also provide school districts the ability to leverage historic, but temporary, federal funding for on-going expenses.

Remarks from Mayor Dean Esposito and Danbury Superintendent of Schools Kevin Walston: “We are proud to stand together in support of House Bill 5283, which will accelerate the Education Cost Sharing grant for the City of Danbury. Our city leaders have advocated for years for our fair share of ECS funding, and this is a solid first step in creating a more equitable funding model for our district. We appreciate a number of our local representatives for being co-sponsors of this bill and urge passage of this legislation prior to the end of the legislative session.”
