City of Danbury investigates unauthorized entry, attempts to breach Office of the Mayor

City of Danbury Announces Investigation into Councilman Joe Britton’s Unauthorized Entry to the Office of Corporation Counsel and Attempts to Breach the Office of the Mayor

Today, the City of Danbury announced an investigation into Councilman Joe Britton’s attempts to access secured areas of Danbury City Hall that he does not have authorization to enter during the evening hours of Saturday, April 15.

As part of the City of Danbury’s quarterly security review, concerns were raised that Councilman Joe Britton and an unidentified female entered the Office of Corporation Counsel. City Councilmen and members of the public do not have access to the Office of Corporation Counsel due to the highly confidential, privileged information and records contained within the department.

Councilman Britton and his guest also tried to enter the Office of the Mayor, another area of City Hall that Councilmembers do not have access to, as shown below in Councilman Britton’s key card record for the evening of Saturday, April 15 (see image #2).

“I am deeply concerned by the actions taken by Councilman Joe Britton during the evening hours of Saturday, April 15 with an unidentified female. This is a matter of upmost concern and importance, as Councilman Britton knows the public, nor City Council members have open access to the Office of Corporation Counsel or the Office of the Mayor due to the highly confidential, secure information housed in these departments. The City of Danbury will launch an investigation into this event. The public deserves answers for this security breach into the Office of Corporation Counsel, and his attempts to access the Mayor’s office,” said Mayor Dean Esposito.
