Mayor Dean Esposito Announces Extended City Hall Hours to Accommodate Danbury Absentee Voters

Today, Mayor Esposito announced extended City Hall hours to accommodate Danbury absentee voters who have a shortened window to return their ballots due to a lawsuit filed by Roberto Alves.

Roberto Alves sued the City of Danbury over actions taken by Town Clerk Janice Giegler. During the trial, Alves asked the judge that no absentee ballots be distributed while the case was litigated. The case concluded on Friday, October 20. Mayor Esposito made the decision to expedite the printing of the ballots to get them in the hands of voters as quickly as possible. Distribution of absentee ballots will resume later this week.

Lawrence M. Riefberg also filed a formal complaint against Town Clerk Janice Giegler with the City of Danbury Board of Ethics. The Board of Ethics found no wrongdoing and did not act on the complaint. “As Mayor of the City of Danbury, I will do everything in my power to ensure that those who vote absentee have every opportunity to return their ballot by 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 7th. I have ordered extended
hours for City Hall to help out the voters who were impacted by this frivolous lawsuit,” said Mayor Esposito.

City Hall regular operating hours are Monday – Wednesday, 7:30am – 6:00pm, and Thursday 7:30am – 6:30pm.

In addition, City Hall will be open:
• Saturday, October 28th from 9:00am – 12:00pm
• Friday, November 3rd from 9:00am – 12:00pm
• Saturday, November 4th from 9:00am – 12:00pm
