Danbury residents arrested for possessing handguns and drugs following traffic stop

On January 5, 2017, New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested Careem C. Campbell, age 28, and 24-year-old Ashley L. Mann, both of Danbury, Connecticut.  Campbell was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2ndDegree, a Class C Felony, and Criminal Possession of Marihuana 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.  Mann was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.
 
Trooper stopped a Honda Civic on Interstate 84 for failing to maintain its lane of travel. Upon detecting the odor of marihuana, the driver who identified himself as Campbell, was directed to exit the vehicle. An investigation discovered that Campbell unlawfully possessed two loaded handguns.  A passenger in the vehicle, Mann, was also found in possession a loaded handgun.  Neither party possessed a permit in New York State to carry the firearms.  Troopers also discovered approximately 110 grams of marihuana in the car. 
 
Both defendants were arraigned in the Village of Brewster Justice Court.  Campbell was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail and Mann was remanded on $1,000 cash bail.  Both parties are scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on January 10, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.
