Danbury Police Warn of Phone SCAM

**SCAM ALERT**

The Danbury Police Department has received an increase in complaints from local residents regarding phone call scams.

Recently, residents have received phone calls from scammers purporting to represent Eversource Electric. The scammers claim they will shut off their electricity immediately if they do not make a payment over the phone. These types of phone calls are SCAMS and the Danbury Police Department wants residents to remember:

1. Eversource representatives never ask for instant payment in person or over the phone.

2. Eversource representatives do not require the use of prepaid debit cards (such as Green Dot MoneyPak, Vanilla or Reloadit).

3. Customers who are scheduled for disconnection due to nonpayment receive written notice via the U.S. mail which includes the actions they can take to maintain service.

Connecticut residents who receive such a call should hang up and contact Eversource Electric directly at 800-286-2000.
