Danbury Concert Association continues season with Camerata RCO, March 29

Carrying on its continually popular series of annual concerts with another DCA first, the Danbury Concert Association will welcome 9 members of Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra to its stage on Sunday afternoon, March 29th at 3:00pm. Under their signature umbrella, Camerata RCO, the ensemble is unique. All its musicians are members of Amsterdam's famed orchestra, but "although we enjoy playing in the orchestra tremendously, we like to expand this joy by playing together in a small ensemble as well." Celebrated for music-making "as snug as the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle" (The Washington Post), Camerata RCO is surely a highlight of greater Danbury's upcoming spring season of topnotch classical music.

The concert will be presented at Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in southwest Connecticut’s premier performing arts facility, the state-of-the-art Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on Western Connecticut State University's Westside Campus in Danbury, CT (43 Lake Avenue Extension).

Camerata RCO plays many concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. The ensemble has residencies in Spaarndam and Dordrecht, as well as Festival Amfiteatrof in Levanto, Italy. They have performed in such cities as New York, Minsk, Tokyo, Seoul, Vienna, Rome and Madrid. For the afternoon's program, with intermission, the ensemble will perform:

Franz Schubert: Octet for clarinet, horn, bassoon, and strings in F major, D. 803 (Op. posth. 166)
Johannes Brahms: Serenade for orchestra No. 1 in D major, Op. 11

The members of Camerata RCO expand on their unique bond, by noting, "Not only is the repertoire of a small ensemble different, we also feel that chamber music is more personal and intimate. It is refreshing to get to know our colleagues in the orchestra better while working together in Camerata RCO. We are completely free to choose the repertoire we play, where we play it and with whom. With Camerata RCO we like to be in close contact with our audience. The energy that results from these concerts is what inspires us most."

Single performance tickets for Camerata RCO are $25 per adult and may be reserved within two weeks of performance by calling the WCSU box office at (203) 837-8732 or by going to wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com  Availability may be limited.
