Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut partners with businesses to exhibit work of local artists

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut continues to collaborate with two local organizations to support artists and engage community.

Hancock Hall, a nursing home that specializes in short-term rehab, long-term care, and respite care, will show the photography of Terrence Tougas, a retired chemist who says that in his “second career” he works “to capture the more intimate aspects of a place. While I appreciate iconic scenes, I relish the ordinary aspects of day-to-day life wherever I am. My work centers on locality and the imprint of humanity of that space.”

The show will open at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23 with an artist’s reception at Hancock Hall, 31 Staples Street in Danbury, and run through May 1.

The second show will be hosted by the Connecticut Institute for Communities. CIFC is dedicated to advancing its communities and fostering greater opportunities for low and moderate-income individuals and families through a combination of health and education programs, and housing and economic development projects.

Alma Faham will show her abstract paintings that tell stories of the artist’s encounters and relationships. Faham said the exhibit “is a brief journey into the incidents that stimulated the subjects of the paintings, and the moments in the different places I lived, celebrations of my origins and matters that influenced me deeply.”

The exhibit will open in late February at CIFC’s gallery at 120 Main St.

Lisa Scails, the Cultural Alliance executive director, said the shows demonstrate an investment by Hancock Hall and CIFC in the local community.

“Collaboration with local business partners on these exhibits provides so much value in addition to the event itself,” Scails said. “It’s the value of sharing more art, supporting local artists, and engaging the community. We appreciate the partnerships with Connecticut Institute for Communities and Hancock Hall.”
