New Physical Therapy Clinic Opens in Danbury

Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Centers (PTSMC) is thrilled to announce the launch of its 26th physical therapy clinic in Connecticut, which opened in Danbury on Monday, June 29.

The Connecticut-based healthcare company, the state’s largest private practice physical therapy provider, specializes in hands-on, one-on-one treatment and serves more than 20,000 patients per year across the state. PTSMC Danbury will be led by Partner and Director Joshua McAdams, PT, DPT, CMTPT, who has been practicing at the group’s New Milford location since 2017.

The new clinic is conveniently located on Route 202 in Danbury at 98 Mill Plain Road, Suite 3B. The location boasts 2600 square feet of space, including private treatment rooms and brand new, state-of-the-art equipment. McAdams and his team will be offering safe clinical care, as well as telehealth services, in order to meet the needs of patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.

McAdams received a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science in 2013, and then a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2016, both from the University of Hartford. He then completed an Orthopedic Residency through Sacred Heart in 2017, which included clinical hours with PTSMC before a brief stint at PTSMC Naugatuck. He is certified in Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling and is especially interested in orthopedics, manual therapy and the management of general musculoskeletal pathologies. His broad skill set and clinical experience enables him to treat a variety of ages and diagnoses, including muscle and joint pain, functional mobility limitations, vertigo and balance issues, osteoarthritis, running and sports injuries, concussion and more.

Coming to town with a wealth of clinical knowledge, McAdams is excited to bring PTSMC’s “customer-centric” approach to Danbury. “The team in New Milford is incredibly tight-knit, and the clinic’s Partner, Bryan O’Neill, set a great example for how to run a clinic that is focused on providing the best possible care for patients while still creating a fun, familial environment,” he said. “While leaving colleagues to start a new venture is never easy, I’m eager to get to know the Danbury community and help even more people move and feel better.”

PTSMC did not close any clinics during the Covid-19 pandemic; most locations offered both clinical and telehealth services to continue to provide care for patients in need. Through the experience, McAdams has adapted to the strict safety precautions required to keep staff and patients safe, as designated by the CDC. “We are very serious about safety at PTSMC,” he said, adding, “we practice strict hygiene by washing our hands regularly and wearing gloves if requested, require masks for everyone in the clinic, clean equipment and surfaces before and after any use, follow guidelines for clinic occupancy and spacing, and have telehealth for anyone who requests it. I am proud to say that we are an incredibly safe healthcare option for people experiencing muscle and joint pain.”

PTSMC President and physical therapist, Alan Balavender, opened the first PTSMC clinic in Waterbury in 2000. Balavender sought to establish a business model that would support physical therapists who want to own and operate their own clinics, and so he developed a “partnership model” that has since helped more than 20 clinicians at 26 clinics realize that goal. Given the challenging circumstances, Balavender is especially excited to see McAdams’ dream of clinic ownership come to fruition. “We had been planning on opening the clinic in Danbury earlier this year, and then the pandemic hit,” he said. “Josh has been positive throughout the delays and difficulties, because that’s the type of person he is, and he’s been steadfast in his commitment to bringing the PTSMC-level of physical therapy care to the Danbury community.”
