Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Lizzy McDonald MSW!

Four questions with Lizzy McDonald.

My business is an investment in the type of world I want to live in- a world where we can joyfully inhabit our bodies, our lives, our communities, our relationships, and the earth.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business to help people and systems thrive emotionally, mentally, and spiritually and to raise the standard of living for all of us as a result. My work with individuals is driven by a belief that a joyful and balanced life doing what you love is possible for everyone with the right tools and support. I wanted to make the pathways to wellness accessible to as many people as possible in my community, especially those struggling with trauma, mental health, and heightened sensitivity.

My ideal clients are sensitive optimists at their core who actively want to make the world a better place, starting with themselves. I work with adults, teens, and children.

My work with systems is centered on peacemaking and restorative justice. I started working as a consultant in this field to address and repair injustices and harms woven into the foundations of space, place, and land. Most recently I've worked with The National Park Service and Urban Word NYC to support initiatives to bring healing and reparations to National Sites where harm occurred in history. I have also piloted Restorative Justice programs for schools and the criminal justice system.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My most popular offerings are New Body PsychotherapySpiritual Healing Sessions, Intuitive Life Coaching, and Reiki Certification Classes. I am currently enrolling in upcoming Reiki classes for anyone interested in bringing more vitality to their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Recently there has been an uptick in requests for energy clearing of homes and land.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

This summer, I hosted a Women's Retreat at Open Farmhouse in Redding and hired local chef, Jeralee Duell to provide nourishing farm fresh meals from the on-site garden as well as various local farms. I regularly refer my clients to other local health and wellness practitioners, especially Jan Scaglia who offers Mayan Abdominal Massage.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

My business is an investment in the type of world I want to live in- a world where we can joyfully inhabit our bodies, our lives, our communities, our relationships, and the earth. I believe entrepreneurship is a spiritual path that challenges us to show up daily as our best selves while energetically demanding the same from the world around us until it is so. I love supporting other creatives, mothers, entrepreneurs, healers, or folks who see even the "mundane" tasks, chores, and jobs as an opportunity to rise into a new and peaceful way of co-existing and co-creating.
