One-Day Challenge from Area Land Trusts

Giving a hand to the land

For one day only in March, six Danbury-area land trusts in the Northern Fairfield County Land Trust Coalition are participating in "Giving Day" on March 6, to raise funds for their shared services program.

"Giving Day", sponsored by the Fairfield County Community Foundation, is a community-wide online giving challenge which seeks to increase philanthropy throughout Fairfield County for participating nonprofit organizations.

The six area land trusts that make up the Northern Fairfield Land Trust Coalition are Land Trust of Danbury, Bethel Land Trust, Brookfield Open Space Legacy, New Fairfield Land Trust, Newtown Forest Association, and the Land Conservancy of Ridgefield.

Each of these organizations announced last month that they would be committed to working together to make each land trust stronger, while spreading the word about the need to protect vital resources throughout the Greater Danbury area.

Donations acquired will be used towards the land trust's "shared services program".

Give where you live

"Giving Day" offers a unique opportunity to let many people know about the work of land trusts and support this work in a way that protects the local communities through the combined efforts of each land trust," stated Guy Peterson, Chairman of the newly formed group.

24 hours only

The challenge runs only 24 hours: all of March 6th (from 12:01AM to 11:59PM on March 6).  By pooling resources and working together by sharing services such as fundraising, community outreach, and land stewardship, the land trusts will become stronger, individually and collectively.

Here's how it works

Your money is multiplied: Every donation made on Fairfield County Giving Day - whether $10 or $100 - counts as a point for the nonprofit in the competition. The nonprofit that receives the most number of donations wins $25,000! In addition, the first 25 nonprofits to raise $1,000 will receive a dollar-for-dollar match of $1,000!

To donate, on March 7th, visit www.FCGives.org and use the search feature or click on the category buttons to find land trusts of the Northern Fairfield Land Trust Coalition and then click donate. Set a bookmark and a reminder to return because up March 7 you will see their Countdown clock.
