From Captain Frederick W. Komm:
1) Wednesday, August 8th, arrest of Edgard Dubon, DOB 1/1988, 12 Marilyn Avenue Amityville, NY. Charges: criminal trespass 3rd degree, larceny 6th degree, criminal mischief 3rd degree. At approximately 3:35 AM, Dubon called police headquarters via 911 reporting that he was stuck in a donation clothing bin located near the People's United Bank at the Goodwives Shopping Center. He admitted that he entered the bin, owned by American Recycling Technologies of Great Neck, N.Y., to remove clothing inside. Numerous clothing items that Dubon had removed were observed outside the bin. Officers attempted to free Dubon, but his left leg was wedged between the bin opening and the interior portion of the bin. Additionally, the bin was secured by a lock. The Darien Fire Department, along with Post 53 EMS, were summoned to the scene. Darien FD personnel were able to cut the lock utilizing large bolt cutters and subsequently entered the bin to free Dubon's leg. He was uninjured during the process and was then taken into custody. He was held in lieu of a $1,000.00 bond, did not post bond, and was presented for arraignment later that morning. Contact was made with the owner of American Recycling Technologies who indicated that over the past several years his donation clothing bins located throughout New Jersey, New York and Connecticut have had numerous items of clothing stolen. A value approximation was not provided at the time. As a result of this activity, the company had recently been replacing the bins with a new type of bin which includes an upgraded clothing deposit tray. The new tray will allow a person to climb into the bin, but will not allow them to climb back out essentially trapping the person inside. According to the owner, Dubon had called the number listed on the bin and left a message stating that he was stuck in the bin and needed help getting out. Unable to resort to any other tactic that would free him, Dubon made the 911 call to police. On the bin in question is the sign, No trespassing. Warning, climbing into this bin is trespassing. Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The stolen wheels are described as being high end alloy and the tires are described as being low profile performance. Each tire/wheel combination is valued at $1,000.00 making the total loss $8,000.00. In addition to the tires and wheels being stolen, damage to each vehicle was sustained during the removal process.
