New Norwalk AAA Office Can Help You Avoid Worsening Delays at DMV

Since many of you have contacted me about the long waits for service at DMV offices, I wanted to let you know that AAA, which provides a number of DMV services, has opened a convenient new office in Norwalk. The new office can provide much needed relief to everyone in our area who is looking to save time on renewing driver’s licenses and other basic DMV services.

The AAA Norwalk Office

Address: 495 Westport Avenue

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 am -5 pm; Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm

Services include driver’s license renewals, ID card renewals, and duplicates of driver’s licenses, ID cards, and learner’s permits.

Delays at the DMV

If you’re feeling frustrated and angry about long waits at the DMV, you’re not alone: the DMV has just released data indicating that customer wait times have tripled over the last year, following the introduction during the summer of a new statewide computer system that is meant to improve service. The DMV shut down its offices throughout the state for a week in August to get the new system up and running.

Disturbingly, the DMV has just reported that during the last week of September, the first full month after the new system became operational, the average wait time jumped to 98 minutes from 37 minutes for the same week in September 2014. For the first half of October, the average wait time was 95 minutes, compared to 31 minutes for the same period in 2014.

My colleagues and I are alarmed and extremely concerned about the delays at the DMV. At the initiative of House Republican leadership, a list of questions about steps being taken to improve service and reduce wait times has been formally submitted to DMV Commissioner Andres Ayala. House Republican Leader Themis Klarides has also requested the organization of an informational forum where legislators can question DMV personnel publicly about what steps are being taken to eliminate the problems.

I look forward to receiving Commissioner Ayala’s responses, and will keep you informed as details become available.

Meanwhile, I hope that you will be able to save time by using the newly opened AAA Norwalk office for DMV document renewals and duplicates.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you’d like to discuss this or any other issue further.
