The Community Fund of Darien Announces Sarah McCarty as Thriving Youth Program Director

The Community Fund of Darien is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah McCarty as Thriving Youth Program Director. Sarah will lead the Thriving Youth Darien local prevention council in its work on the Center for Disease Control’s Drug Free Communities Grant. The grant was awarded to The Community Fund of Darien in 2021 for 5 years. The $625,000 grant is the nation’s leading effort to mobilize communities to prevent youth substance abuse.

“Sarah’s passion for youth will enhance the Thriving Youth Darien coalition in its work to promote and empower positive youth development and mental health, with the goal of reducing teen substance abuse. Sarah’s experience will help the volunteer coalition collaborate to conduct the work of the CDC’s grant,” said The Community Fund of Darien Executive Director Janet King.

Sarah has a degree in psychology from the University of Connecticut and extensive experience working with youth and families. She worked with Perrot Memorial Library, Spark Business Academy, Mad Science, and Green Moon Art Studio before starting a position as Youth Program Manager at The Community Fund of Darien last fall.

Sarah will continue to lead The Community Fund of Darien’s youth programs, including Youth Give Back, Freshman Community Group, and Youth Asset Team in her position as Thriving Youth Program Director. TCF’s youth programs offer opportunities for middle and high school students to get involved in local community service, philanthropy, community-building and mental health initiatives.

“I am excited to step into this new role and continue supporting the youth of Darien,” said McCarty. “My goal is to provide even more opportunities for our young community members to thrive, learn and make a positive impact.”
